2020 Super Duty Series' New 7.3-Liter V8

The 2020 Ford Super Duty Series Sees Serious Upgrades

Get the scoop on the two big improvements coming to the 2020 Super Duty series in today’s blog! 2020 Brings New Engine and New Tech Super Duty trucks deserve a super-strong engine, and Ford is set to deliver in the upcoming 2020 collection. With a new 7.3-liter V8 on board, as well as an innovative power takeoff unit, the 2020 Super Duty series is set to impress. Behold the Beastly 7.3-Liter V8 2020 Super Duty Series' New 7.3-Liter V8 The 2020 Super Duty series will now sport an all-new, awesome 7.3-liter gasoline V8 engine. This beefy beating heart should provide best-in-class output for gas V8 engines, according to Ford. With 430 pound-feet of torque and 430 horsepower under the hood, it will be hard to beat this bad boy. Alongside this innovative engine, nearly all Super Duty trucks will feature a new heavy-duty 10-speed automatic transmission that can tackle the increased power output with ease. While all that power is impressive, perhaps even more surprising is that the new V8 will be able to over 400 pound-feet of torque at just 1,500 rpm, giving drivers access to impressive performance without the wait. The full strength of the engine will available at 4,000 rpm. All that effort is sure to produce a lot of heat, so Ford has designed a forged steel crankshaft with "extra-large" main bearings as well as cooling jets for the pistons to keep things cool and capable no matter the effort. The F-250 and F-350 will be the first members of the 2020 Super Duty series to see the new 7.3-liter engine as an available option. Ford will roll out the upgrade to the F-450, F-550, F-600, F-650 and F-750 at a later date. These models will see a little less power, with 350 horsepower and 468 pound-feet of torque on tap. The F-53 and F-59 stripped chassis models will also feature this engine eventually, alongside the E-Series cutaway. As time goes by, Ford will roll out numerous calibration configurations to improve fuel economy, but the automaker has no target date in mind quite yet. Power-Up Accessories with the New Standard Power Takeoff The other big upgrade coming to the 2020 Super Duty Series is the new inclusion of a state-of-the-art power takeoff unit. Normally used by truck-chassis dumpers and snowplows, a power takeoff unit provides extra energy for accessories. Cranes, boom lifts, snowplows and the like draw power from powertrain thanks to power takeoff units. The new power takeoff unit will allow for up to 300 pound-feet of stationary torque. With this new inclusion, the 2020 Super Duty Series will be capable of many more duties than in the past. The power takeoff unit won't be included in every model, however. It will come standard on 2020 Super Duty Series trucks still sporting the older 6.7-liter diesel V8. For trucks toting the new 7.3-liter V8, power takeoff will be an available upgrade. The six-speed automatic-armed F-650 and F-750 should see it as an option at a later date as well. On important factor to note is that unlike most power takeoff systems, the 2020 Super Duty series addition won't leave you stuck stationary. The unit connected to the 10-speed automatic transmission is designed as a "live" setup that will allow use when in motion. Ready to get down to business in a new 2020 Super Duty series truck?
