Affordable, advanced, and able: the 2019 Ford Escape SE is just what you’re looking for!

Affordable Driver Assist Features

When it comes to advanced driver assistance technology, the 2019 Ford Escape SE has plenty to offer. At only $995, the SUV’s Safe and Smart package provides a ton of great tech at a very affordable price. Opting for this upgrade will net you some impressive improvements, such as:

  • rain-sensing windshield wipers,
  • adaptive cruise control,
  • forward collision warning brake support,
  • automatic high-beam headlights,
  • active lane-keeping assist and
  • a blind-spot warning system with cross-traffic alert.

When you consider that this is the second least expensive trim, with an MSRP of just $26,500, packing on the package is a steal. For less than $28,000 before a delivery charge, you can have a highly-capable SUV with tons of state-of-the-art technology.

Reasonably Priced

2019 Ford Escape SE

2019 Ford Escape SE

That low price is another major reason why the 2019 Ford Escape SE is such a good buy. For just $28,490, you can drive away in an all-new Escape SE, delivery charge included. With the only previously-mentioned Safe and Smart package being the only on offer for this trim, a fully-featured 2019 Escape will run you less than $30,000. Compared to competitors that run for as much as $40,000 or more when all the cards are on the table, the 2019 Ford Escape SE is an absolute bargain.

Usable Cargo Space

The final piece of this SUV puzzle is that the 2019 Ford Escape SE has plenty of place for your stuff, with easy access as well. At a maximum of 68 cubic-feet of cargo capacity with second-row seating folded forward, this SUV has plenty of room for activities. With the rear seating upright, it still offers a competitive 34 cubic-feet of space. This above-average cargo capacity at a below-average selling price makes the 2019 Ford Escape SE a very enticing offer.

Even better, getting loaded up in a new Escape is a breeze thanks to a few great design elements. Low lift-over height means you won’t have to struggle to get your gear into the rear, and completely fold-flat back seats take the hassle out of loading up. At 60-40 split rating, you can even keep some passenger space while still bringing along a lot of toys and tools. Last but not least, wide-placed wheel wells leave a lot of open area to work with in the back.

With great fuel economy and a strong four-wheel-drive system at an affordable price, the 2019 Ranger wooed Cars.com.

A Simple Start

The 2019 Ranger is Ford’s latest offering in the truck category, and reviewers can’t stop praising the pickup. Ford is taking things slowly with the Ranger, offering just three trim tiers in this year’s model. Only one engine is on the table for this truck as well, though as noted in our previous article, the little truck has a lot of muscle.

Cars.com and PickupTrucks.com recently tackled the 2019 Ranger for a team review. If the first four points of praise from our last article weren’t enough to sway you, here’s another three reasons the reviewers raved about the 2019 Ranger

Best-in-Segment Fuel Efficiency

Pickup trucks are known for being gas guzzlers, but the 2019 Ranger is more of a sipper than sucker. This first model year of the renewed Ranger brings with it 21 mpg city, 26 mpg highway and 23 mpg combined. That EPA-estimated rating makes it the most fuel efficiency gasoline-fed mid-size pickup truck in the market.

Promises are one thing, but what about the real world results? Mark Williams, editor of Cars.com’s sister site PickupTrucks.com, had a lot of great things to say about the 2019 Ranger, especially that supposed efficiency.

“We ran about 200 miles over freeways and two-lane mountain roads from sea level up above 5,000 feet and we finished our all-day run with a 21.1 mpg average — not bad given how enthusiastic we were through the fun parts of the mountain roads.”

Fantastic Four-Wheel-Drive

When it comes to driving with all wheels, the 2019 Ranger is a force to be reckoned with. Williams praised “how well the part-time four-wheel-drive system integrates engine power with the transmission gears on nasty trails.”

He was also a fan of the aid provided by the Terrain Management System. With four settings, including Grass/Gravel/Snow, Mud/Ruts, Sand and Normal, the 2019 Ranger can change throttle response, traction control, steering feel, shift points and more to maintain control and power in all conditions. Even better, all four options can be used both in 4-high and 4-low ranges.

“Add to this system a strong FX4 Off-Road Package and you can see why we never found any obstacles on our off-road test track we couldn’t conquer,” Williams noted. As a whole, the combined efforts create a great driving experience. “The 4WD system has all the right parts, gearing and driver readouts, but what separates this new 4×4 pickup from the others is how well it all works together.”

Bang for Your Buck

Fuel efficiency and four-wheel-drive are great features for any pickup truck. Yet one of the biggest strengths of the 2019 Ranger is just how affordable it is with all that it offers. Williams called the starting MSRP of $25,395 “reasonable.” Of course, drivers seeking some more settings and additions can opt for upgrades such as the 4×4 SuperCrew Lariat trim tier, which Williams said retails for $39,480.

“There is a lot of value in what Ford is offering in the 2019 Ranger,” Williams said in praise of the 2019 Ranger. The mid-size pickup “does not try to revolutionize the mid-size pickup segment by offering features or technology never before seen; however, it does offer enough feature and trim choices to satisfy the vast majority of customers.”

By the very next year, the invention was adopted for cycling races and contributed to an impressive number of victories. This was just the start of a tradition of racing success that would only grow stronger with the rise of automobiles.

Cars.com and PickupTrucks.com recently took the 2019 Ford Ranger out for a spin. Here’s four aspects of the Ranger that rocked the reviewers.

The Ranger Returns

The 2019 Ford Ranger has arrived, and reviewers are impressed by the little truck that could. Ford has spent the last eight years largely ignoring the mid-sized pickup truck market, but the Ranger represents Ford’s renewed interest in recapturing the crowd. Cars.com teamed up PickupTrucks.com to try out Ford’s newest truck, and they returned with quite a tale to tell. Here’s four of 2019 Ford Ranger’s best features, according to the car and truck sites.

Energetic Engine

The 2019 Ford Ranger packs plenty of power under the hood. The Ranger features a 2.3-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine that is capable of 270-horsepower. The engine also puts out 310 pounds-feet of torque. It is aided by the inclusion of  a 10-speed automatic transmission, as well as either 4×2 or 4×4 drivelines. Mark Williams, editor of Cars.com’s sister site PickupTrucks.com, was a big fan of this powertrain. In his larger review, he said the Ranger was quick to respond when he put his foot to the floor.

“Some may think choosing a four-cylinder engine to power a pickup truck (even a smaller one) is a risky move,” Williams said in his First Drive. The smaller engine is no slouch, though. Williams wrote that the turbo four “delivered plenty of motivation in all the configurations we drove; in fact, the only engine with more torque in this segment is the bigger and brawnier turbo-diesel option in the Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon.”

Tremendous Towing and Payload Power

2019 Ford Ranger Small Stature Big Brawn

2019 Ford Ranger Small Stature Big Brawn

That small-but-mighty engine makes the 2019 Ford Ranger a workhorse, despite being one of the smaller trucks on the market. “Of course, we know that most people who buy a mid-size pickup will not tow or haul that often but given that most … are purchased with adventure activities in mind, it’s good to know how they perform just in case they get the call,” Williams said in his review.

The 2019 Ford Ranger proudly provides the highest maximum tow rating for any gas-engine small pickup, rated for a whopping 7,500 pounds. As for loading up with cargo, Cars.com said that maximum payloads are 1,860 pounds for a SuperCab 4×2 and 1,770 pounds for a SuperCrew 4×2.

The 2019 Ford Ranger handles well despite the added weight. Williams’ test involved a 500- to 600-pound load, and he was impressed by the Ranger’s ride. “The extra weight over the rear axle was almost neutralized by the fairly aggressive Tow/Haul mode.”

Williams added that even with 5,500 pounds in tow, the 2019 Ford Ranger was more than capable. “We found our little four-cylinder engine plenty strong enough to keep its revs up and slot the right gear in the transmission to make short work of the extra weight.”

Easy Control and Ride

Another highpoint for the 2019 Ford Ranger was how responsive and balanced the controls and chassis feels. Williams found the Sport driving mode particularly enjoyable, with tighter throttle sensitivity and steering creating an exhilarating experience.

This is helped by the fact the Ranger is blessed with a well-balanced chassis. “We never found a situation where the front end didn’t carve into the turn or where the rear end became unsettled,” Williams noted. He also pointed out that  “the rear-end suspension is a standard feature as well, not feeling too soft or tuned for empty ride quality.”

As Cars.com noted, all Rangers use the same single parabolic arched rear leaf spring and overload spring for better balancing. Hitachi monotube shocks, specifically tuned for each configuration, take the thump out of hitting bumps.

Impressive Interior Design

The 2019 Ford Ranger may work hard, but it also looks good doing it, and keeps you comfortable along the way. Williams noted the appeal of the interior, saying that “the cockpit of our Lariat package was quite impressively appointed with leather, a simply designed center console and instrument panel, as well as a nice, big navigation screen.”

Passengers packed into the back won’t feel like canned sardines, either. Williams praised the rear seating, saying that it “is is quite reasonable for adults and will offer generous amounts of seating area (with a center armrest) for kids.”

When it comes to tires, a little bit of time spent on maintenance can save you a lot of time spent in repair shops or hospitals.

Taking Time for Tire Maintenance

As life goes by, drivers are often so busy they forget to do the little things, like looking at their tires for damage. It is easy to think, “What’s the big deal, they worked fine yesterday, they’ll work fine today!” Yet something so quick and easy to do can save you a lot of cash or avoid a crash down the line. Save yourself from danger, save your car from damage and save your wallet from drainage. Here’s Quick Lane at Flagship Ford’s quick tips on how to handle proper tire maintenance.

Why and When to Check Your Tires

While tire maintenance certainly isn’t glamorous, it is a very important part of protecting yourself and your vehicle on the road of life. Your vehicle’s wheels are the one part that touches the road and as a result they face the most wear and tear. Worn-out tires can have a major impact on handling, performance, braking and comfort. Worst of all, a tire that has taken a beating can blow out while you are driving, all too often resulting in crashes and collisions. Keeping an eye on the condition of your tires is a simple, easy way to make sure you’re safe taking that next drive.

At the very least, we recommend a self-inspection of your tires once a month. During colder periods, especially if there is snow, you should check them out more often. Taking long trips or regularly running into potholes and other obstructions can put increased wear on your tires, so you should check your tires more often as well. Taking a moment to look at air pressure, tread depth, balance and alignment every few weeks could save your life.

Getting Gas? Take a Look

One of the easiest ways to make a habit of checking your tires is to do so every time you fill up on gas or get a car wash. Since you’ll already be around your vehicle with free time to kill, why not do something productive? Take a minute or two to walk around and look out for tears, uneven wear, bulges and cracks. Catching these early can make for an easier, cheaper repair or replacement. Also keep an eye out for foreign objects such as nails or rocks that may have punctured the tire. Removing these while stationary, or fixing them at a nearby shop, could prevent a life-threatening blowout down the road.

Check Tire Pressure Often

It may not seem like a big deal, but tire pressure is one of the most important aspects of tire maintenance.

Under-inflated tires can drain your fuel tank more quickly, as they need more energy to get rolling due to increased road resistance. Deflated tires also wear out quicker, making replacement a more common occurrence.

Inflating the tire too much can be dangerous as well, as they provide less grip on the road and can lead to losing control.

A properly inflated tire provides optimum control and the Department of Energy estimates as much as a 3.3 percent improvement in fuel efficiency.

Don’t Overload Your Tires

With the summer here, taking trips in your truck or SUV is commonplace. Towing a ton of toys is a great use for your SUV, but make sure you don’t try to tackle too much at once. Double-check the limits of your tires before you load up your truck. Overloading your tires can cause them to build up extra heat, which can cause increased wear and tear and dangerous blowouts. Don’t risk the integrity of your tires or your life to save a trip.

Resecure with Regular Rotations

Changing which wheel your tires are on regularly is a great way to prevent uneven wear. Different wheels will encounter different conditions; give your tires a break by swapping them to another spot so potential problem areas get a rest. This is one of the simplest yet most effective ways to make your tires last longer.

We recommend a full tire rotation every 5,000 miles for best results. Our staff is more than happy to help you with this, so feel free to stop by any time, no appointment necessary. While a rotation can be done on your own, it isn’t the easiest task. Our trained team will keep an eye out for other issues such as suspension misalignment that you might miss trying to do it yourself.

Don’t Sleep on Seeking Repairs

This may seem like a no-brainer, but far too many drivers take chances on obviously-damaged tires, all too often leading to unnecessary injuries and deaths. Don’t make a bet on your life or loved ones. Saving a little cash in the short-term isn’t nearly as valuable as saving a life.

Likewise, don’t try and drive on a spare tire indefinitely. Some vehicles have full-size spare tires available, and while those will do well in the short term, full replacement is still necessary. The spare tire will have significantly less wear and tear on it than the other three, which can lead to handling issues and even loss of control.

Think of it like a pair of shoes: if one of your shoes brakes, you’re fine walking around in a mismatched pair for a day, but you wouldn’t walk around with different shoes for weeks or months. Treat your tires like you would your own feet, and make sure they always have a matching set of “shoes.”

This is even more important if you vehicle is only equipped with space-saving small tires, such as the so-called “donut” tire. These little tires are in no way meant for long-term usage. They can struggle to maintain integrity and control as they are smaller and thinner than normal tires. You will wear out these smaller tires much more quickly than normal and they are very vulnerable to hazardous road conditions. We recommend using such spare tires for no more than 70 miles of travel at speeds no higher than 50 MPH. We can only recommend using them to get you from the scene of your accident to the nearest tire shop, such as our own here at Fast Lane.

Did you notice some damage on your tires? Are you not sure if they are safe? Come have them checked out or replaced today at Fast Lane at Flagship Ford!

As the automotive world experiences momentous change, a Nasdaq report tackles the Ford future lineup and innovations as they try to stay on top.

Endless Evolution

The times, they are a changin’ … The car world has never been in quite so much flux as it is now. Sedans are dying out, hybrids are taking over, and robotic self-driving cars are just around the corner. It’s an uncertain time for the big automobile companies. Uncertainty can be crippling in such a fast-paced industry. Yet, Ford has managed to navigate the changing landscape with ease. A new Nasdaq report offered insights into how the automobile giant has forded the flow of flux with an impressive Ford future lineup.

Ford-Future-lineupSayonara, Sedans

One of the biggest changes in focus for the Ford future lineup came in 2018, when the automotive company decided to cut down on sedans in favor of trucks and commercial vehicles. Ford saw the dominance of sedans was coming to an end and shifted gears to compensate in a big way. As the Nasdaq report showed, Ford plans to have nearly 90% of their North American lineup consist of trucks, utility and commercial vehicles.

This trend is not just an American-centric development. Ford’s European offerings have dominated the medium and heavy-commercial vehicle landscape. Ford’s European market share has never been higher, reaching over 14%, bolstered heavily by commercial sales. 2018 was a dominating year for the company, who saw their best commercial vehicles sales in 25 years.

Ford has no plans to slow down this sedan-light lineup anytime soon. In fact, it is expanding development and partnering with other companies to do so. This past January, Volkswagen and Ford announced a new partnership to create new fleets of commercial vans and medium-sized trucks. The goal of this alliance is to drive down production costs with shared research and development.

I’m Sorry Ford, I Can’t Do That

Commercial cars are one thing, but driverless cars are a whole new world, one that the Ford future lineup is working hard to rule. Since 2016, the automaker has worked on a host of autonomous technologies in the hope of putting out fully autonomous vehicles by 2021. Ford wants to tackle the booming ride-hailing world and tackle giants like Uber by cutting out the middleman: the driver.

The first hint of this dream became a reality when Ford released Co-Pilot 360 in 2018. The technology suite remains one of the most impressive driver-assistance programs on the market. Automatic emergency braking, lane keeping and blind spot information systems are just some of the amazing features already available to drivers, with more in development.

Communication between driverless vehicles is a critical component of any future autonomous fleets, and Ford is taking no chances in this field. By 2022, the automotive company aims to include a new cellular service to connect cars with one another, dubbed C-V2X. The hope is that C-V2X will compliment the senses of the vehicles already provided by advanced LiDAR, radar and camera sensors to create cars that are more proactive than reactive.

Currently the carmaker hopes to have the first at-scale operations on the road between 2020 and 2022, alongside deployment of similar driver-assistance developments for consumers. Not content to simply provide taxis, Ford continues to explore partnerships with consumer giants such as Walmart and Postmates to provide delivery services.

Autonomous vehicles may be in the future, but electric vehicles are already here in a big way. Ford has been at the forefront of hybrid and electric vehicle development and plans to increase their efforts to take over this energizing field with their future lineup.

Billions are being thrown at the electric field, with Ford pledging $11 billion towards research and development by 2022. While other car companies are putting out hybrids or electrics at a painfully slow pace, Ford plans to go big, with 40 electrified vehicles planned by that same year.

Partnerships are being produced in this field as well. Ford announced in April that it would work with Rivian on a $500 million electrified vehicle project. The two companies plan to create a brand-new, cutting-edge fully electric vehicle to add to Ford’s growing collection.
